Description

Provenance: G Denholm Armour and thence by descent. Pen & ink and watercolour, 5 ¾ x 8 ¼ (14 x 15) inches. This typically rapid sketch was drawn on the back of an envelope sent by Crawhall to George Denholm Armour. (Prov: Phillips, Fine Paintings sale, 1st May 1998, Lot 49)

The artist

Crawhall was one of the most talented and highly regarded animal artists ever produced by Scotland. His favourite subjects were horses, dogs and other animals, often painted on linen or silk. MORE.....
