Description
COPPER HOUSEHOLD WATER VESSEL
FRENCH, 1st half 19th Century
Copper, with brass reinforcement and decorative embellishment.
This impressive piece is most probably French, but is also similar to Flemish work of the same period. These vessels were used to store the washing and cleaning water for a household and this one has a capacity of about 8 gallons (30 litres).
Height 30 ins (75cms) Widest part 18 ins (46 cms)
On the upper front shoulder is an owner’s device of later date, with chased engraving, the initials “L B” or possibly “S B” and date “1857”.
